"Rethread collective" reuses and turns old yarn to new items or raw material, which can be used for an art installation, fashion and textiles garments. "Rethread" believes that there is no reason to create new materials; there are enough resources to sustain.
“Rethread collective” believes in the collaboration. For this reason, the concept is aiming to invite textile designers, fashion designers, independent makers and artists to become the active part of the initiative and work towards change in the textile industry together.
Methods of "Rethreading"
"Rethread collective” operates with used yarn and practises several different methods of recreation: turning old garments to new fashion items or turning old garments to yarn for knitting. Conscious consumers can purchase "Rethreaded" garments and yarn online.
Concept of "Collaboration through the knot."
1st phase. Intuition and knowledge.
Threads (people) did not meet each other yet. Anyhow, both segments are sharing the same intuitive knowledge and urgency; for this reason, both threads are moving towards each other.
2nd phase. Sharing.
Threads (people) meet each other and start exchanging their ideas, knowledge and experiences.
3rd phase. New concepts.
Threads (people) connect and combine ideas; it leads to new concepts, but not a physical result.
4th phase. Unity.
Threads (people) make a knot. It symbolises unity and strong bondage. Knot creates a "crossroad", which can lead to new direction and opportunities to connect. Repetition of these four methods/actions creates the net of connections.
"Inside - out"
The "Rethread collective" sees beauty in imperfection - it influences aesthetics. Collective is aiming to connect people the same as yarns, that is why collective's trend mark is to leave knots of connecting threads on the "good" side of the garment. It is a symbol of community, working together and the end and new beginning of the old knitwear.
